LAMBORGHINI MURCIELAGO

LP640

Murciélago LP 640: an innovative name that refers to the engine position (Longitudinale Posteriore – hence the ’LP’), as well as the impressive 640 CV power. The new version of this highly successful super sports car featured considerable upgrades in terms of body design and mechanics, to celebrate the innovation and cutting edge technology in the automotive domain reached by Lamborghini.

I´m in love with this car!

It was at the end of 2015. I was checking cars as usual online. On the site Von Braun Sportscars, a well-known dealer of sports cars in Sweden, I found this beauty! At this time, I had my Lamborghini Gallardo LP560, also in the white color ”Baloon White”. The Gallardo was a wonderful car, but I’ve always loved the shapes of the Murcielago. When this Murcielago LP640, also in the white color I like, came up for sale, I fell in love! A month later, the deal was completed and the love remains!

LEGENDS NEVER DIE

MURCIELAGO

In the late afternoon of the 5th October 1879, after a fiercely fought contest in the arena of Cordoba, a bull named Murciélago from the stud farm of Joaquin del Val di Navarra had his life spared by the famous matador Rafael Molina ”Lagartijo”. This was a very rare occurrence in bullfighting, and an honour accorded only to those bulls that have shown exceptional courage and spirit in the arena. And Murciélago was indeed such a bull.

What does LP640 stand for?

In March 2006, Lamborghini unveiled an updated version of the Murciélago at the Geneva Motor Show: the Murciélago LP 640. The new title incorporated the car’s name, along with an alphanumeric designation which indicated the engine’s orientation (Longitudinale Posteriore), and the updated power output. With displacement now increased to 6.5 litres, the engine was rated at 640 PS (471 kW; 631 hp) at 8,000 rpm. The exterior received a noticeable facelift, featuring revised front and rear fascias, and asymmetrical side air intakes, with the left side intake feeding an oil cooler. A new single outlet exhaust system incorporated into the rear diffuser, modified suspension system, revised programming, and upgraded clutch for the 6-speed ”E-Gear” automated manual transmission with launch control rounded out the performance modifications. Interior seating was also re-configured in order to provide greater headroom, and a new stereo system formed part of the updated dashboard. Optional equipment included Carbon fibre-reinforced Silicon Carbide (C/SiC) ceramic composite brakes, chrome paddle shifters and a glass engine cover. The car’s estimated fuel economy for the 6-speed manual variant is 8 miles per U.S. gallon (29 L/100 km) in the city and 13 miles per U.S. gallon (18 L/100 km) on the highway, making it the least efficient car in 2008 for city and highway driving.
